Harrogate Children Pedalling for Heart Health

Youngsters who want to test their stamina and heart rate like a Tour de France rider are getting the chance from Yorkshire-based charity Heart Research UK at an event at the Holiday Inn, Harrogate on Friday (6 June).

The charity will be part of a Tour de France education day organised by Harrogate based website, School Trips and Workshops, in conjunction with the Holiday Inn, to celebrate the arrival of the Grand Depart in North Yorkshire.

Over 300 Year 5 students from eight local primary schools will take part in an action-packed day of workshops which will include an exercise bike challenge, organised by Heart Research UK, for youngsters to test their stamina and heart rate as well as getting involved with Tour de France-related workshop sessions.

Barbara Dinsdale, Heart Research UK’s Lifestyle Manager, said: “The Tour’s Grand Depart in Yorkshire is a fantastic opportunity to inspire children and adults alike to get into the cycling habit.  Cycling is a great low-impact, aerobic activity which, once they’ve mastered the basic skills, can be enjoyed by people of all ages and all abilities.”

Founder of School Trips and Workshops, Liane Levine said: “To have the Grand Depart in Harrogate is a truly historic and exciting event. The purpose of our education day is to excite local students about Le Tour de France and to use this sporting event as the catalyst to bring learning to life. The day will showcase a wide variety of local workshop providers listed on our site.”
